Both the men’s and women’s national rugby sevens teams are in camp at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani ahead of the upcoming HSBC Sevens Series Division Two Leg in Montevideo, Uruguay, scheduled for March 21–23, 2026.
After finishing third in the Nairobi Sevens leg—despite losing only one match—men’s national team (Shujaa) head coach Kevin Wambua insists the focus remains clear: earning promotion back to the main HSBC SVNS Series.
“The boys are sharp, focused, and ready. Our goal is to get back to the main series stage—nothing less. Every session in this camp is geared toward that objective,” said Wambua on Wednesday at the MISC.
His counterpart, Simon Odongo, who is in charge of the women’s national team (Lionesses), echoed similar sentiments, though he was more measured in his approach after his charges finished fifth in Nairobi.
“Our target is clear: we want to finish in the top three in both Montevideo and São Paulo. That gives us a real opportunity to compete in the Championship playoffs, which is our ultimate goal,” said Odongo.
According to the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), both teams are set to depart for South America on the 15th of this month and return at the end of March. They remain firmly in contention for Championship qualification, with valuable points still up for grabs in the remaining legs.
