Deputy President Kithure Kindiki's call for political rivals to reunite with the Kenya Kwanza administration has been met with an outright rejection after former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya declared he has no intention of returning to government, saying his attention is fixed on the 2027 Meru gubernatorial contest.
In a statement issued on Thursday, August 6, 2026, Munya dismissed reports linking him to a possible government comeback, saying he is not looking for any appointment in the current administration.
“No thank you. I am not seeking positions within the government,” Munya said.
Munya said he could not associate himself with an administration that had “overseen the erosion of public institutions, weakened the economy and presided over serious human rights violations.”

He said his political plans remain focused on Meru County, where he hopes to win the governor's seat in the next General Election.
“My primary focus is clear; earning the trust and support of the people of Meru to be elected Governor on 10th August 2027 on the Party of National Unity (PNU) ticket,” he said.
His remarks shut down growing speculation that he could be among opposition leaders making their way back into government following recent overtures by leaders allied to President William Ruto.
The invitation had come from Deputy President Kindiki, who asked Munya, Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) deputy party leader Mithika Linturi and Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi to return and work with the government.
Kindiki made the remarks on Thursday while meeting grassroots women leaders from Meru County at his Irunduni residence in Tharaka Nithi. He said he had forgiven leaders who had criticised him and wanted them to unite for the development of the Mt Kenya East region.
“I have no issue with leaders who insulted me. I forgive them and ask them to come, we work,” Kindiki said.
“I have seen that our brothers have started being treated with contempt. I want to tell them to come on board so that we can work together because we are one people. They should come and work with the Fireman in this government so that we can help them secure positions in ministries and other senior offices because this is our government.”
