In resolutions released following a meeting held at Chungwa House in Nairobi on Monday, ODM said the decision followed an internal disciplinary process that examined complaints against the Nairobi senator in his capacity as Secretary General.
The Interior CS maintained that lawful protests will continue to be protected, but insisted that security agencies will act decisively against groups that disguise criminal activity as demonstrations. He said state institutions remain on high alert as the June 25 anniversary approaches.
Gachagua argued that the vote showed clear alignment between leaders and the people who elected them, saying constituents would ultimately respond at the ballot.
Maraga also raised alarm over what he described as weakening accountability systems, saying citizens reported frequent disregard for the law by public officials. He referenced casualties recorded during Gen Z protests, saying they reflected rising anger over impunity and lack of justice.
His remarks come as political competition begins to take shape in Busia County, where former governor Sospeter Ojamoong has already expressed interest in the Senate seat and secured backing from Governor Paul Otuoma, who is expected to defend his position on an ODM ticket.
