Police in Kakamega seized about 48kg of suspected cannabis worth Sh1.4 million from a PSV on the Kisumu–Kakamega Road, arresting one suspect in an intelligence-led anti-drug operation.
The operation was led by officers from the National Police Service in collaboration with the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA), as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the production and distribution of illegal drugs within residential communities.
The humanitarian agency said at least 253 households were burnt down, forcing affected families to seek shelter in schools, dispensaries and open spaces, with some spending nights under trees.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, the ministry said the overall security situation across the country “remains calm and stable,” but warned that past trends show the festive period often records “isolated increases in security incidents, traffic violations, and other opportunistic criminal activities.”
According to the advisory, traffic approaching the stadium from Langata Road will be diverted at the Madaraka Roundabout, with vehicles redirected toward the Lusaka Road Roundabout.
The event brought together senior police leadership, government officials and officers from the first two contingents deployed to Haiti in 2024.
The suspects, identified as Evaline Jepchirchir Rotich and Jane Chepkonga Chelanga, were apprehended by officers from the Parliament Police Station following multiple complaints from members of the public.
Tuimur had a long and distinguished career in the National Police Service, serving in various capacities in the General Service Unit (GSU) before rising to the rank of AIG. Colleagues described him as a dedicated officer, with some remembering him as a kind and respected man.
Authorities said the cannabis was likely being transported for distribution within the region, but they did not reveal the intended destination or whether additional suspects are being sought.
Police said the suspects are linked to multiple incidents involving attacks on officers and vandalism in the locality. The weapons recovered during the raid have been secured as critical evidence for ongoing investigations.
In Embobut, Marakwet East, a local resident handed over a loaded AK-47 rifle containing three rounds of ammunition to the nearby police station on Thursday. The surrender is part of ongoing disarmament efforts aimed at reducing the presence of illegal firearms in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
