Addressing the crowd during the launch of the NYOTA Program at Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County on Friday, the President said borrowers who take small loans and fail to repay only harm their own financial growth.
PS Mang’eni explained that Nyota is different from the Hustler Fund in both its function and target group.
The World Bank–funded initiative targets to reach 820,000 young people aged between 18 and 29 years, and up to 35 years for persons with disabilities, across all 1,450 wards in the country.
To take the test, participants must use the same mobile number they registered with during the NYOTA application.
The Nyota initiative, implemented in partnership with the World Bank, will provide Sh50,000 grants to 70 young people in each of Kenya’s 1,450 wards, enabling them to start small businesses.

Ahead of the rollout, Principal Secretaries will travel to all 47 counties on October 6 to meet governors, MPs, MCAs, and local leaders to ensure the programme is well understood and implemented smoothly.
The funds will be disbursed in phases, accompanied by guidance from business development experts to help the youth launch sustainable enterprises.
Kindiki emphasised the need for stronger coordination between the government and its development partners to accelerate progress on both current and future programmes.
