Treasury advertises CEO position for National Infrastructure Fund

The National Treasury has invited applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer of the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF), as it moves to operationalise the country's flagship infrastructure investment institution.

In a public advertisement issued on July 13, 2026, the Treasury said the successful candidate will provide strategic, commercial, and operational leadership to the Fund, which is expected to mobilise domestic and international capital for large-scale infrastructure projects.

According to the advertisement, the CEO will report to the Board of Directors and oversee the establishment of the institution, implementation of its strategic plan, and delivery of its statutory mandate.

The successful applicant will also be responsible for mobilising capital from institutional investors, development finance institutions, sovereign wealth funds, and commercial financiers, while spearheading investment origination, project development, and portfolio management.

To qualify, candidates must possess at least a bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering, Law, or a related field from a recognised university. A master's degree or professional qualifications such as CFA, CPA, or CA will be an added advantage.

Applicants must also have at least 10 years of experience in investment management, private equity, infrastructure, project finance, investment banking, development finance, or a related field, including at least five years in a senior executive leadership role.

The Treasury said shortlisted candidates will be required to present clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), and a registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), among other documents.

"This is a unique opportunity to establish and lead one of Africa's premier infrastructure investment institutions," the National Infrastructure Fund Board said in the recruitment notice.

Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, July 31, 2026.

The National Infrastructure Fund (NIF) is Kenya's corporate investment vehicle established by the government to finance large-scale public infrastructure projects without relying heavily on traditional public debt or increased taxation.

Speaking during a church service and fundraiser at ACK St Martin's Cathedral in Kitui Town on July 12, 2026, President William Ruto said the Fund has already mobilised Sh350 billion, which will accelerate the implementation of long-delayed infrastructure projects.

"We now have a formula, under the National Infrastructure Fund, to deliver these projects," the President said.

According to President Ruto, the Fund has raised Sh244 billion from the sale of the government's Safaricom shares and Sh106 billion from the partial divestiture of the state's shareholding in the Kenya Pipeline Company.
