Kenya Airways has announced 2–3 hour departure delays for flights from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), citing ongoing air traffic control challenges.
In a customer update issued on Sunday, the national carrier apologised for the disruption and said its teams were working with aviation authorities and relevant airport stakeholders to minimise the impact on travellers.
“We are currently experiencing delays of 2-3 hours for departures out of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) due to ongoing air traffic control challenges,” Kenya Airways said.
The airline did not indicate how long the delays were expected to last, saying the situation was still developing.
It said efforts were under way to maintain safe flight operations while reducing inconvenience to passengers affected by the delays.
“Our teams are working with the aviation authorities and relevant airport stakeholders to ensure safe operations and minimise the inconvenience and disruption to our customers' travels,” the airline said.
Kenya Airways said the safety of its passengers and crew remained its main priority as the disruption was addressed.
“The safety of our crew and guests remain our highest priority,” it said.
Affected passengers have been advised to contact the airline's Customer Excellence team for assistance and the latest information concerning their flights.
The airline said it would continue monitoring the situation and provide further updates as new developments emerged.
“As this is a developing situation, we will keep you updated as soon as we have new developments,” Kenya Airways said.
This follows earlier announcement by Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) that some departing flights at its airports were experiencing delays.
“Kenya Airports Authority PLC wishes to advise passengers and other airport users that some departing flights are currently experiencing delays at our airports,” KAA said in a statement on Sunday.
KAA said it was working with relevant aviation agencies, airlines and other stakeholders to manage the situation, minimise disruption and facilitate the smooth flow of airport operations.
The authority advised passengers to contact their respective airlines for the latest information on their flight status and to plan their journeys accordingly.
