Murkomen accuses opposition of lacking agenda, condemns political attacks

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has criticised former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over what he termed personal attacks targeting the families of political leaders.

Murkomen also criticised the United Opposition and the Linda Mwananchi faction, accusing them of lacking a clear programme for governing the country.

“They don’t have an agenda. They are waiting for their boss, who went into retirement, to plan for them,” Murkomen said on Sunday.

The CS further accused sections of the opposition of sponsoring and shielding individuals involved in political violence, while calling on the Judiciary to take firm action against those facing charges linked to such incidents.

“When goons are arrested, the opposition should stop the business of running to court to defend them,” he said.

Murkomen also condemned the recent attacks on journalists during the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay, urging the media to maintain objectivity when covering political violence.

“To our journalists, stop taking sides in the war against goons,” he said.

He spoke during an interdenominational church service at Twiga Primary School in Cherangany, Trans Nzoia County.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei, who accompanied Murkomen, called on politicians to embrace issue-based politics and urged Kenyans to respect differing opinions.
