Senator Sifuna says political setbacks will not silence him

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has declared that recent political setbacks will not deter him from serving Kenyans, insisting that losing influential positions within the opposition has neither weakened his resolve nor stripped him of his ability to lead.

Addressing supporters during the Linda Mwananchi tour in Mwatate Town on Saturday, Sifuna reflected on the changes that have reshaped his political career in recent months, saying leadership positions may have been taken away but his commitment to championing the interests of ordinary citizens remains intact.

"All the big positions that Baba had given me have been taken away. But I want to ask them: Do you still see that I have my ears? Do I still have my head? Do I still have my legs? Have they taken away my mind?" Sifuna told the crowd.

He said leadership is not defined by titles, maintaining that his ability to think, mobilise and advocate for Kenyans has not changed despite recent developments within the opposition.

Sifuna also made a light-hearted reference to his former position as Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General, suggesting supporters have greater expectations for his political future.

"Vijana wamesema sasa niwache kuitwa SG; wanataka kunipea ingine inaitwa H.E.," he said, drawing cheers from supporters.

His remarks come days after he was removed as Senate Deputy Minority Whip following changes to the opposition leadership in the Senate.

The reshuffle sparked criticism from a section of opposition senators, who questioned the manner in which the changes were carried out. Leaders aligned with the Linda Mwananchi faction condemned Sifuna's removal, alleging it was orchestrated at State House and implemented through an unlawful process.

Sifuna was speaking during the Linda Mwananchi political tour of Taita Taveta County, where the team held rallies aimed at mobilising support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

According to a programme released by Linda Mwananchi spokesperson and Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, the delegation began its tour in Mwatate before proceeding to Wundanyi and later concluding the day's activities in Voi.

The rallies attracted large crowds as members of the movement outlined their political agenda and urged residents to remain engaged in the country's political affairs.

The team also endorsed Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako in his bid to unseat Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime in the 2027 General Election, calling on residents to rally behind his candidature.

Sifuna maintained that political offices are temporary, but the responsibility to speak for wananchi remains constant. He told supporters that while positions may change, his determination to fight for the interests of Kenyans remains unwavering, as the Linda Mwananchi movement continues its grassroots mobilisation across the country.
