According to the social justice movement, Mukuru Community Justice Centre, the 20-year-old Shukri Adan was allegedly killed on Sunday morning by a police officer in Mukuru Kwa Njenga.
The NPS said the deaths, alongside numerous serious injuries and destruction of property, mark a grim start to the year and signal a crisis that demands immediate, collective and decisive action.
Kitutu Central Police Commander Kazungu Charo confirmed that the arrests were made during a special operation conducted by a multi-agency security team.
The body was retrieved on the third day of search and rescue operations, as efforts continued at the site.
In a statement on January 3, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) said the suspect was flushed out of his hideout on the outskirts of Kenol Town in Murang'a South Sub-County during the early hours of the morning.
Following his arrest, officers conducted a search and recovered several items believed to be linked to the crime. These included a claw bar, a police jungle jacket and a tear gas canister, raising concerns over the misuse of police gear in criminal activity.
The stolen livestock was tracked to the Madoadoa area along the Isiolo–Gambela Road, where officers encountered the suspected cattle rustlers. Police said a confrontation ensued as the suspects attempted to evade arrest.
Police encountered five suspected rustlers at the location, who fled upon spotting the officers, abandoning the stolen goats and evading arrest.
The Kibra operation forms part of a broader campaign by the NPS to dismantle criminal networks supplying illicit substances.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers from Gatong’ora Police Station were conducting routine early morning patrols in the Destiny area of Ruiru when they came across the suspects in the act.
Officers attached to Shaurimoyo Police Station in Buruburu Sub-County conducted the operation on Saturday after receiving credible intelligence on the production and distribution of chang’aa in the area.
