The petition accuses these officials of authorizing violent crackdowns that led to alleged crimes against humanity during nationwide Gen Z-led protests between June 2024 and July 2025.
According to IPOA, the protests left 342 civilians injured and 171 police officers wounded between June 17 and July 7, 2025.

Wetang’ula stressed that rights must be exercised peacefully and unarmed, as clearly stated in the Constitution. He also said the law should be firm on those who incite or fund destruction.
According to Raila, such an approach preserves the dignity and human rights of suspects and lends credibility to state actions.
The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to be presented in court.
Baraza was captured on camera during the incident, alongside his colleague Duncan Kiprono. However, Kiprono has now been released and will not face any charges.
Two officers linked to Kariuki’s shooting have been arrested and are facing murder charges.
The President warned that politicising violence and destruction of property only serves to divide the country, and called on leaders to be responsible.
The commission said it was alarmed by the death toll and scale of destruction, describing the protests as a wake-up call for the nation to urgently address the root causes of youth anger and mistrust.
A total of 567 people were arrested in connection with the protests, which police said were marred by lawlessness in some areas despite calls for peaceful conduct.
