Two arrested as Police seize 220 litres of illicit Chang'aa in Kibra

Two suspects have been arrested after police seized 220 litres of illicit chang'aa during a targeted operation in the Kianda 42 area of Kibra, Nairobi County.

The intelligence-led raid was part of an ongoing crackdown on the production and distribution of illicit alcohol.

In a statement on July 20, Police said the operation led to the arrest of two male suspects, who remain in custody pending processing and arraignment. The 220 litres of suspected chang'aa recovered during the raid have been secured as exhibits.

The NPS highlighted that the operation forms part of sustained efforts to curb the manufacture and sale of illegal brews, warning that those involved will face the full force of the law.

The service also urged members of the public to report illicit brewing activities through designated reporting channels and police hotlines.

The NPS described the raid as another milestone in its campaign against illegal alcohol, which authorities say poses serious risks to public health and safety.

"Officers from the National Police Service have dealt a significant blow to the trade in illicit alcohol following a successful operation. The officers conducted a targeted raid within the Kianda 42 area of Kibra, arresting two male suspects and confiscating 220 litres of chang'aa," the statement said.

The operation forms part of wider enforcement measures aimed at disrupting the manufacture, transportation and sale of illegal alcoholic drinks.

Authorities have repeatedly maintained that illicit brews pose a significant threat to communities because of the unsafe methods often used in their production and the health risks associated with their consumption.

The National Police Service said it would continue conducting intelligence-led operations targeting individuals involved in the illegal alcohol business.

"This operation reaffirms the ongoing commitment of the National Police Service to eradicate the production, distribution and consumption of illicit brews."

The police also appealed to members of the public to support law enforcement agencies by reporting suspected illegal activities in their communities.

They urged residents to share information through the nearest police station or use designated reporting channels to assist ongoing operations against criminal networks involved in illicit alcohol.

"Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity at the nearest police station, or via the toll-free numbers 999 and 911, through #FichuaKwaDCI on 0800 722 203, or anonymously by WhatsApp on 0709 570 000."

The latest seizure adds to ongoing police efforts to curb the circulation of illicit brews across the country through targeted enforcement operations and public cooperation.
