Two arrested with cannabis worth Sh3.3 million after Eldoret-Nakuru Highway chase

Police have arrested two suspected drug traffickers after a high-speed chase along the Eldoret-Nakuru Highway that led to the recovery of cannabis valued at Sh3.3 million.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) in Nakuru, working with K9 officers, intercepted a blue Nissan Note, registration number KDN 836H, following intelligence reports.

Police in a report on July 27, 2026, said the driver ignored orders to stop and sped off in an attempt to escape, despite having a deflated tyre.

"Not even a deflated front tyre could immediately kill the vehicle’s momentum, as the driver sped recklessly, making a dangerous U-turn at the KFA Roundabout and racing towards the Eveready area on a flat rim," the DCI said.

The suspects later abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but detectives caught up with them and arrested them.

A search of the car led to the recovery of five sacks containing 110 kilograms of cannabis sativa.

The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Wesonga and Stephen Daria, are in custody awaiting arraignment, while the recovered drugs have been kept as exhibits.
