Paris 2024 Olympic champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi and silver medalist Marco Arop are set to renew their rivalry in the men's 800m at the 2026 London Diamond League, scheduled for Saturday, July 18, at the London Stadium in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Wanyonyi heads to London in superb form after breaking the 1,000m world record in Monaco. He is also the fastest man in the world over 800m this year, having clocked 1:41.84 in Paris last month—the third-fastest time of his career.
Arop, the Canadian record holder and Olympic silver medalist, will be looking to avenge his defeat to Wanyonyi in Paris. However, the pair will face stiff competition from American Bryce Hoppel, who finished fourth at the Paris Olympics in a US record time.
Home favourite Max Burgin will also be in the field as he looks to impress a sold-out London crowd. The meeting will also feature Josh Kerr, who will attempt to break Hicham El Guerrouj's 27-year-old mile world record.
Saturday's event is the 11th stop of the 2026 Wanda Diamond League season, which began in Shanghai in May and will conclude with the two-day final in Brussels in September.
