Kenya's oldest school rugby competition the Prescott Cup will continue in 2025 the Kenya Rugby Union has announced.
The prestigious tournament which was first held in 1967 pits elite high school rugby teams in Kenya against each other and has been a well known breeding ground for some of the country's best young talents as they progress in their rugby careers.
It will kick off in May and is expected to offer some explosive rugby for purists to enjoy.
" The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) is pleased to announce the return of the Prescott Cup 2025, Kenya’s premier high school rugby competition, set to kick off in May 2025, KRU said in a statement.
"A cornerstone of youth rugby development, the Prescott Cup provides a competitive platform for secondary school teams to showcase their talent, refine their skills, and contribute to the growth of rugby in Kenya.
KRU has invited all rugby-playing secondary schools to express their interest by completing the official registration form. The deadline for registration is 21st March 2025, to ensure ample time for planning and organization.
" The Prescott Cup remains a key pillar in KRU’s commitment to developing young rugby talent and strengthening the pathway from school-level participation to elite performance. We encourage schools to take advantage of this opportunity and be part of an exciting and competitive 2025 season, the statement read.
Some of Kenya's biggest rugby talents such as Sidney Ashioya, Peter and Mitch Ocholla, and plenty of others have made appearances in the Prescott Cup with the 2025 tournament set to continue with the growth chart.
Upper Hill School won the 2024 edition, with Ofafa Jericho preceding them in 2022. St Mary's School Nairobi, Rift Valley Academy, Lenana, and Nairobi School are the tournament's most successful sides.
