The High Court has adjourned the murder case over the death of teacher and blogger Albert Omondi Ojwang to December 14, 2026, with six suspects remaining on trial.
The accused include former Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam, who was in charge of the station when Ojwang died in police custody in June 2025.
Ojwang was arrested in Homa Bay and transferred to Nairobi's Central Police Station, where he was later found dead in a police cell. His death triggered nationwide calls for police accountability and raised concern over police brutality.
Following investigations by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions approved murder charges against the six suspects, who have all denied the charges.
The prosecution alleges Ojwang died from injuries sustained while in custody and says evidence links the accused to the events surrounding his death. The court has previously denied them bail over concerns about the seriousness of the case and possible interference with witnesses.
The trial has also examined CCTV evidence from Central Police Station, with testimony indicating that parts of the surveillance system had technical issues.
The case will resume on December 14, 2026, as the prosecution and defence continue presenting their evidence.
