Most parts of Kenya will experience dry weather over the next seven days, although several counties in western Kenya, the Rift Valley, Nyanza and the Coast are expected to receive rainfall, according to the latest weekly forecast by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday, the department said the forecast covers the period between July 21 and July 27 and shows that rainfall is likely in Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Nakuru, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Vihiga, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Migori, Lamu and Nyandarua.
"Several parts of the country are expected to be generally dry. However, some counties including Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Nakuru, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Vihiga, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Migori, Lamu and Nyandarua may receive rainfall," the department said.
The forecast further indicates that Nairobi and parts of Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang'a, Nyandarua, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi will continue to experience cool and cloudy conditions at intervals, with light morning rainfall expected in a few areas.
Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are also expected in parts of western Kenya and the Rift Valley. The areas likely to be affected include Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Nakuru, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Vihiga, Uasin Gishu, Migori and Nandi.
Along the Coast, residents in Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu should also expect afternoon showers during the forecast period.
The department also warned that hot daytime conditions will continue in northern and coastal parts of the country.
"Daytime (maximum) average temperatures of more than 30°C are expected in parts of Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, parts of West Pokot and Turkana counties," it said.
At the same time, cold nights are expected to persist in parts of the central highlands and the Rift Valley, where minimum temperatures are forecast to fall below 10°C.
The affected areas include parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Nyeri, Embu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru and sections of Taita Taveta.
