Fatuma Zarika wants Kirsty Hill rematch before calling time on her boxing career

Former WBC super-bantamweight world champion Fatuma Zarika has renewed her call for a long-awaited rematch with Britain's Kirsty Hill for the Commonwealth Boxing Council (CBC) super-featherweight title.

Zarika lost the title to Hill on May 11, 2024, at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool, England, in a bout she believes was unfairly judged in favour of the home boxer.

Now 41, Zarika says securing a rematch with Hill is her biggest goal before retiring from professional boxing.

"I will need to be in tip-top shape to challenge for the title. I may not be in the same condition I was when I won the world title, but I believe I can regain that through proper training," she said during a training session in Nairobi.

"The fight in England was not fair. I gave it my all, even though the result did not go our way. I want a fair rematch to determine who the better boxer really is," Zarika added.

She also claimed that Commonwealth Boxing Council President Reuben Ndolo acknowledged after the fight that the decision had been unfair, but despite that, no rematch has been arranged.

Zarika last fought on April 3 this year, defeating Tanzania's Flora Machela by knockout in Nairobi to improve her professional record to 52 bouts.

The veteran boxer also revealed plans for a training camp in Europe as she prepares for her next fight, although the location has not yet been disclosed.

More than two years after losing the CBC super-featherweight title, Zarika says she remains determined to face Hill again before bringing her distinguished boxing career to an end.
