Political players who have placed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) logo on campaign posters have five days to take down the materials or risk action, the electoral body has warned.
IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon on Thursday said the Commission had raised concern over the unauthorised appearance of its logo on campaign materials being used by aspirants and other political actors.
He said the use of the IEBC logo without approval was not allowed and could give the public the wrong impression that the electoral body had approved, backed or endorsed certain candidates.
According to Ethekon, the practice could also raise questions about the Commission’s independence, impartiality and position as a non-partisan institution.
“The Commission has noted the unauthorized use of its logo on campaign materials. Such use is irregular and unlawful and may falsely imply Commission endorsement,” Ethekon said.
Ethekon directed those behind the materials to stop using the logo and ensure all affected campaign posters and other materials are removed within five days.
He issued a clear warning that failure to comply with the directive would lead to action by the Commission.
“Failing which appropriate action will be taken,” he warned.
The warning comes as preparations for the 2027 General Election continue, with the IEBC also moving ahead with the purchase of materials required for the polls.
Ethekon said the Commission had already started the procurement process after securing a budget allocation for the 2026/2027 financial year.
However, the purchase of election technology and ballot papers has been put on hold temporarily after a request for review was lodged before the Public Procurement Administrative Review Board.
Despite the delay affecting the two areas, Ethekon said the procurement of other election materials was progressing.
He said both strategic and non-strategic items were being procured and the process was expected to be completed on time before the 2027 General Election.
