The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has formally gazetted the date for Kenya’s 2027 General Election, setting Tuesday, August 10, 2027, as the polling day.
In a public notice signed by IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon on Monday, the Commission said the gazettement was made in accordance with Article 88(4) of the Constitution, the Elections Act and the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012.
"The Public is HEREBY notified that pursuant to the powers conferred by Article 88(4) of the Constitution of Kenya, the provisions of the Elections Act, Cap 7 and the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012, the Independent Electoral & Boundaries Commission has published the Notice of the General Election scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 10th August, 2027 for the respective elections and election campaign financing timelines as carried in the Kenya Gazette Notice Numbers 13497, 13498, 13499, 13500, 13501, 13502 and 13503 Vol. CXXVIII – No. 144 published on 20th August, 2026 and Gazette Number No. 13771 Vol. CXXVIII – No. 150 published on 26th August, 2026," reads a section of the notice.
The notice sets out timelines for the various elections and campaign financing ahead of the 2027 polls.
The gazettement formally establishes August 10, 2027, as the date for the presidential, parliamentary and county-level elections.
Ahead of the polls, each political party intending to participate in the General Election shall submit the names and specimen signatures of its authorised persons on or before Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Political parties intending to participate in the General Election shall have their nomination rules certified by the Registrar of Political Parties on or before Friday, October 30, 2026.
The parties shall then submit their certified nomination rules to the Commission on or before Friday, November 6, 2026.
The notice further requires political parties intending to participate in the General Election to have their membership lists certified by the Registrar of Political Parties on or before Tuesday, March 23, 2027.
"Political parties intending to present a candidate in this election shall submit the names of the persons contesting in the party primaries, the date and venues of the party primaries on or before Thursday, 8th April, 2027 being at least 21 days before the nomination day," reads the notice.
The IEBC has also directed members of the public, political parties and prospective candidates to access the official notices for details on the electoral and campaign financing timelines.
