A new Infotrak survey has placed a presidential ticket of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna at the top of the opposition's preferred combinations for the 2027 General Election, even as a large number of Kenyans remain undecided over who should carry the coalition's flag.
The nationwide poll shows the Kalonzo-Sifuna team enjoys 23 per cent support, making it the most popular opposition ticket among those surveyed. Even so, the findings reveal that 21 per cent of respondents are yet to decide, pointing to an opposition contest that remains open as leaders continue talks on forming a united team.
The second most preferred ticket pairs Kalonzo Musyoka with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i, attracting 16 per cent support. Close behind is a reverse arrangement featuring Matiang'i as the presidential candidate and Kalonzo as his running mate, which received 15 per cent.
Other proposed combinations attracted lower support. A Kalonzo Musyoka-Rigathi Gachagua ticket polled five per cent, while Rigathi Gachagua-Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua-Fred Matiang'i, Fred Matiang'i-Rigathi Gachagua and Fred Matiang'i-Martha Karua each received four per cent support. A Kalonzo Musyoka-Martha Karua ticket garnered three per cent.
According to Infotrak, the results show Kalonzo continues to stand out in discussions on who should lead the opposition into the next General Election.
"The most preferred opposition ticket is Kalonzo Musyoka with Edwin Sifuna at 23%," the report noted. "The second and third-ranked ticket options are very close: Kalonzo Musyoka with Fred Matiang'i has 16%, while Fred Matiang'i with Kalonzo Musyoka has 15%."
The research firm also pointed out that none of the proposed pairings has won majority support from voters.
"No single ticket has majority backing, and 'Not Sure/Don't Know' remains high at 21%, signalling an unsettled opposition field," the report stated.
The survey also ranked the most preferred opposition presidential candidates. Kalonzo Musyoka led the list with 35 per cent support, followed by former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i at 29 per cent. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua came third with 15 per cent.
Martha Karua received seven per cent support, Edwin Sifuna polled three per cent, while Eugene Wamalwa attracted two per cent. Another nine per cent of respondents said they were undecided.
The findings come as opposition leaders continue consultations aimed at agreeing on a united ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election. The talks are expected to focus on both the presidential candidate and the running mate as the coalition works towards presenting a single team.
Infotrak said the survey was conducted between June 22 and June 26, 2026, and involved 3,000 adults drawn from all 47 counties. The interviews were carried out through Computer-Assisted Personal Interviews (CAPI) and Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI). The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 1.79 per cent at a 95 per cent confidence level and recorded a 99 per cent response rate.
