Electricity has been restored to all areas affected by Wednesday night’s widespread blackout after Kenya Power completed overnight restoration works, bringing supply back to customers by 2:00 a.m. on Thursday.
In a customer alert issued at 6:22 a.m., the utility confirmed that power had been fully restored across the regions hit by the outage and thanked customers for their patience as technical teams worked through the night to reconnect the affected areas.
“We are pleased to report that power supply was fully restored to all affected customers by 2:00 am today,” Kenya Power said in the statement.
The company also thanked customers for their understanding during the restoration exercise, saying its engineers remained on the ground until electricity was restored.
“We truly appreciate your patience and support as our teams worked to restore service,” the utility said.
The update came hours after Kenya Power announced that a widespread power outage had cut electricity supply to Nairobi, the Coast region, Mt Kenya and parts of the Central Rift on Wednesday evening.
In an earlier customer alert issued at 9:05 p.m., the company said some parts of the country were not affected by the outage, with customers in sections of the North Rift and Western regions continuing to receive electricity.
“We wish to inform our esteemed customers that we are experiencing a widespread power outage affecting customers in Nairobi, Coast, Mt. Kenya and parts of Central Rift. However, parts of North Rift and Western regions are on supply,” Kenya Power said at the time.
Following the outage, the utility deployed technical teams to establish the cause of the interruption and begin restoring electricity to the affected regions as quickly as possible.
As restoration efforts continued through the night, Kenya Power apologised for the inconvenience caused and appealed for patience as engineers worked to reconnect customers.
The blackout sparked concern across the country, with many customers taking to social media to report the loss of electricity and seek updates before the utility confirmed the outage.
Although power has now been restored to all affected customers, Kenya Power has not disclosed what caused the widespread outage.
The restoration brings normal electricity supply back to households, businesses and essential service providers that had gone for several hours without power following the latest widespread electricity disruption.
