The Football Kenya Federation has announced that former Harambee Stars, Mathree United and Sofapaka coach Francis Kimanzi has been appointed Director of Football development.

The experienced Kimanzi has coached the Stars at various and on four different occasions.

He was also in charge briefly from November 2008 to January 2009 and then for a longer spell from November 2011 to June 2012 and then again in 2019/2020.

He was also last year appointed together with Twahir Muhiidin to lead the preparations for the 2025 CHAN competition which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania later this year.

According to FKF, Kimanzi, a highly experienced coach with an extensive background in Kenyan football, steps into the role as the federation seeks to strengthen its structures, nurture local talent, and foster sustainable growth within the sport, the Federation said in a statement Thursday.

“We are confident that Mr Kimanzi’s leadership and expertise will play a pivotal role in advancing our development agenda and shaping the future of Kenyan football,” said FKF General Secretary Harold Ndege.

The Stars recently appointed South African Benni McCarthy to manage the national team on a three-year deal.
