Jamhuri Day is a national holiday in Kenya, celebrated on 12 December each year. “Jamhuri,” the Swahili word for “republic,” marks the day Kenya gained independence on 12 December 1963.

Nairobi Regional Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo announced on December 11, 2025, that an elaborate security and traffic management plan is in place ahead of today’s Jamhuri Day celebrations.

This, while urging residents to cooperate fully to ensure a smooth, safe, and colourful national event.

In a press briefing on Kitiyo said multi-agency teams have been deployed across the capital from Thursday evening through the end of the festivities to ensure safety and order.

In a message on his social media page, King Charles III has sent his Jahmuri Day wishes to Kenya’s President William Ruto and the Kenyan people.
