In Summary

Kosgey died in a helicopter crash in Mosop, Nandi County on February 28, 2026. The aircraft, carrying Ng’eno, a pilot, a forest ranger, a protocol officer, a teacher, and Kosgey, went down shortly after take-off in bad weather and burst into flames, killing all on board.

The family of Nick Kosgey, the late photographer for Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ng’eno, on Wednesday described him as a driven and talented young man whose life and career were tragically cut short.

Speaking during the requiem mass in Karen, his sister-in-law, Betty Bett, said the family saw Kosgey as their light and main provider, mourning the sudden loss in Nandi County.

Bett recalled how Ng’eno had recognized Kosgey’s talent and brought him into his media team, giving the young journalist an opportunity that he cherished. “Nick was so incredibly happy to begin that chapter, never imagining it would be cut so short,” she said.

The ceremony was filled with emotional reflections on Kosgey’s professional journey, personal dedication, and the vital role he played within his family. “Nick Kosgey was a young, ambitious, and industrious man,” Bett added, noting his determination and commitment to his work.

An alumnus of Maseno University, Kosgey graduated in 2023 from the Department of Media, where he served as Head of News at Maseno Radio. Known for his visual storytelling and media production skills, he had gained experience through an internship with the Bomet County Government’s communications department before joining Ng’eno’s team less than a year ago.

Bett recalled the moment Kosgey’s career took a new turn. “I remember clearly when Mheshimiwa recognized his talent and invited him to join the team,” she told mourners. The family reflected on how brief yet meaningful his time with the MP had been. “It has been barely a year since he joined Mheshimiwa’s team,” Bett said.

Throughout the service, family members spoke of Kosgey as the backbone of the household, emphasizing the void his death left behind. “Nick was our light, our bread winner,” they said, while another tribute read, “The light of the family has deemed,” capturing the deep sense of loss.

The requiem mass brought together mourners from different walks of life, including National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Housing PS Charles Hinga, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and other government officials. Prayers were offered for comfort and strength as the family navigates the difficult period following the tragedy.

Speakers remembered Kosgey’s professionalism, warmth, and eagerness to contribute meaningfully to the team he had recently joined. Friends highlighted his dedication and enthusiasm, while the family expressed gratitude to all who stood with them in their mourning.

As the service concluded, moments of silence and prayer were observed in Kosgey’s memory. The ceremony in Karen focused on remembrance, celebrating a young life full of promise and the legacy he leaves behind in both his family and professional circles.
