Oscar Piastri made absolutely no mistakes as he overrun the field to take the win at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai China, Sunday morning.
Piastri led a McLaren 1-2 with his teammate Lando Norris coming home second. George Russell finished third to cap yet another podium finish for the Mercedes driver.
Driving from pole position, Piastri was ruthless to earn his first win of the season.
“It’s been an incredible weekend from start to finish, the car has been pretty mega the whole time. I think today was a bit of a surprise with how the tyres behaved but I’m super proud and what I feel like I deserve from last week," he told the BBC.
"I’m extremely happy and the team did a mega job, a one-two obviously, I’m very happy."
Norris, who won the season-opening race last week still leads the driver's Championships despite coming second and as such, congratulated his teammate for the win.
"There were a few fun moments, at the start I was hoping for exactly that. Turn One went to plan but then George [Russell] got me on the pit stops," he adds in an interview with the BBC.
"I was a little bit nervous but our pace was a lot better in the second stint. Oscar drove well, he was quick the whole race, so I tried to get close but in the end, I just couldn't."
Red Bull's Max Verstappen the reigning Formula 1 champion was fourth, with the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing fifth and sixth, an improvement on their ninth and tenth place finish last week.
Leclerc and Hamilton seemed to have a collision which caused the Frenchman's wing to be damaged.
He still managed to finish the race, once more ahead of his new teammate.
"It's not Lewis' [Hamilton] fault at all and on my side, I was just round the inside trying to position the car for Turn Three, Lewis didn't know I was there and I did not expect him to take the apex at the moment he was on the outside," he told the BBC.
"It's a racing incident, it is not the first or last time it will happen but it's a shame that it happened between the two red cars but obviously there was no bad intentions from either of us. That was unfortunate and obviously it cost me quite a bit for the rest of the race," he added.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso did not finish the race for the second week in a row after a collision after a brake problem cost him his car.
The next Formula 1 race will take place in Japan 4-6 April 2025, with Bahrain hosting the fourth leg of the season 11 to 13 April.
