Police in Meru County have arrested two suspects after raiding a suspected drug processing house in Timau and recovering 100 rolls of cannabis, additional bhang at various stages of processing and equipment believed to have been used in preparing the drugs for distribution.
The National Police Service (NPS) said the operation was conducted following credible intelligence as part of an intensified nationwide crackdown on narcotics trafficking.
According to police, officers carried out a targeted raid at a house in the Soko Korona area of Timau Town that had been identified as a suspected storage and processing point for illicit drugs.
A search of the premises led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of cannabis and materials allegedly used in packaging the drugs.
"A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of a significant quantity of exhibits linked to the illegal drug trade," the National Police Service said in a statement.
Officers recovered 100 rolls of cannabis (bhang), additional cannabis at various stages of processing, five pairs of scissors, a knife and rolling papers believed to have been used in preparing and packaging the drugs.
Police said the items indicated that the suspects were actively processing the narcotics for distribution.
Two suspects found inside the house were arrested during the operation and taken into lawful custody.
"Two suspects who were found inside the premises were immediately apprehended and placed in lawful custody. They are awaiting arraignment in court, while the recovered exhibits have been secured as evidence," the statement said.
The arrests form part of ongoing efforts by the National Police Service to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb the circulation of illicit substances across the country.
"The fight against narcotic drugs remains a top priority as the National Police Service continues to intensify operations aimed at dismantling drug trafficking networks and protecting communities from the devastating effects of illicit substances," the agency said.
The service reaffirmed its commitment to combating crime and ensuring the safety of Kenyans, residents and visitors.
