Police have arrested three suspects believed to be members of a violent robbery gang accused of terrorising residents in Kisumu County through a series of house break-ins, following investigations into an incident captured on CCTV.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation began after detectives arrested one suspect believed to be among three armed robbers seen on CCTV forcefully breaking into a victim's home while armed with pangas, metal bars and what appeared to be a pistol. The gang allegedly stole assorted household items before fleeing the scene.
Investigators said the suspect later cooperated with police and provided information that led officers to the Rabuor area, where one of his alleged accomplices was believed to be hiding. Two more suspects were arrested during the operation, although the key suspect identified in the investigations managed to escape and remains at large.
Searches conducted at the suspects' hideouts led to the recovery of several items believed to have been stolen during the robbery.
Detectives also recovered a toy pump designed to resemble a pistol, several SIM cards suspected to have been used in criminal activities, burglary tools believed to have been used to gain entry into the victim's house and several rolls of bhang.
Police later searched another rented house linked to the suspects in the same area, where they recovered additional suspected stolen property, including a national identity card belonging to one of the robbery victims.
"The suspects were escorted to Kasagam Police Station, where they remain in lawful custody pending the completion of investigations," the NPS said.
Police added that efforts are underway to trace and arrest the remaining suspect.
"The National Police Service remains resolute in pursuing offenders, protecting communities, and ensuring that those who threaten public safety and security are brought to justice," the statement said.
The service also urged members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspected criminal activities through the nearest police station or anonymous reporting channels, including the toll-free numbers 999 and 911, the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline and WhatsApp platform.
