The Registrar of Trade Unions has formally registered Bro. Thomas Mboya as the Acting General Secretary of the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA).
An extract from the Register of Trade Unions dated September 9, 2026, confirms that Mboya has assumed the position, providing continuity in the leadership and administration of the union.
Mboya currently serves as KUDHEIHA’s Senior Deputy General Secretary and has more than three decades of experience in the trade union movement.
He joined KUDHEIHA in 1993 and entered the union’s leadership in 2006 when he was elected Kakamega Branch Secretary.
During his tenure at the branch level, Mboya played a role in expanding the union’s membership, organisational structures and influence, according to the statement.
He later progressed through the union’s national leadership structures and was elected National Treasurer in 2021 before taking up his current position as Senior Deputy General Secretary.
His registration as Acting General Secretary is expected to provide continuity as KUDHEIHA carries out its mandate of representing and advancing the interests of workers in the sectors covered by the union.
Mboya has pledged to provide stable, inclusive and forward-looking leadership during his tenure.
He has also committed to safeguarding the unity of KUDHEIHA and ensuring that the union remains focused on protecting and advancing the rights and welfare of its members.
The Registrar’s confirmation formally establishes Mboya’s position as Acting General Secretary in the union’s official records.
His appointment comes as trade unions continue to play a key role in advocating for workers’ rights, better working conditions and improved welfare.
UDHEIHA represents workers across the domestic, hotel, educational institutions, hospitals and allied sectors, making its leadership important in negotiating and addressing workplace concerns affecting its members.
Mboya’s long service within the union is expected to guide his leadership as he takes on the acting position and oversees the union’s administrative and organisational affairs.
The union leadership has reiterated its focus on maintaining unity while advancing the interests of its membership under the new acting leadership.
