UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar arrived in Juba, South Sudan, at the head of a senior party delegation for high-level talks with the country's ruling Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM), as the party seeks to strengthen political cooperation across the East African region.
The visit forms part of UDA's broader strategy to deepen regional political engagement by building stronger institutional partnerships with governing parties in neighbouring countries. Discussions are expected to centre on governance, party development and the exchange of best practices.
"The visit is expected to strengthen bilateral party-to-party relations and deepen cooperation through structured engagements between UDA and the SPLM," said a statement by UDA on Sunday.
The two sides are scheduled to hold a series of structured meetings focusing on institutional collaboration, leadership development, political exchange programmes and other areas of shared interest aimed at promoting regional stability, democratic governance and socio-economic growth.
The engagement highlights the increasing role of inter-party diplomacy within East Africa, with both UDA and the SPLM seeking to establish long-term mechanisms for cooperation while reinforcing the longstanding bilateral ties between Kenya and South Sudan.
The parties are also expected to explore frameworks that will support continued political engagement and closer regional integration.
The UDA delegation was received at Juba International Airport by SPLM Second Deputy Secretary General Baba Medan Konyi and Kenya's Deputy Head of Mission and Chargé d'Affaires in Juba, Benedict L. Watamba, reflecting the importance attached to the visit by both the South Sudanese ruling party and Kenya's diplomatic mission.
Also accompanying Hassan Omar are UDA National Organising Secretary and Mwala MP Vincent Kawaya, together with other senior party officials participating in the bilateral engagements.
