Agnes Ngetich storms to historic Monaco win with world-leading 8:08.95

Agnes Jebet Ngetich stole the spotlight at the Monaco Diamond League after delivering a breathtaking run that earned her a historic victory in the women's 3,000 metres, clocking a world-leading 8:08.95 to climb into the list of the fastest women ever over the distance.

Making her first track appearance of the season, Ngetich took charge of the race and never looked back, pulling away from the field to secure a dominant win. Her impressive performance moved her to third on the women's 3,000 metres all-time list, adding another major achievement to her growing career.

The Kenyan crossed the finish line well clear of Ethiopia's Baweke Aleshign, who finished second in 8:23.81. Ethiopia's Getachew Senayet followed in third after posting 8:24.02.

Faith Kipyegon was the next Kenyan across the line, finishing fourth in 8:24.21 in a race that featured some of the world's strongest distance runners.

Ngetich's remarkable run also brought her closer to one of athletics' longest-standing records. She now sits "just less than three seconds outside the world record" held by Wang Junxia.

Her winning time of 8:08.95 is now the third fastest ever recorded in the women's 3,000 metres, highlighting the quality of her performance on the Monaco track.

The victory gives Ngetich a dream start to her track season and strengthens her place among the leading names in women's distance running.

Official race results also showed Ethiopia's Hailu Freweyni finished fifth in 8:25.77, Mebratu Aynadis placed sixth in 8:27.15, while Alem Mizan completed the top seven in 8:27.99.

Ngetich's commanding display ensured Kenya celebrated victory in one of the night's biggest races, with her historic time placing her among the greatest women ever to compete over the 3,000 metres.
