Motorists using Mombasa Road will experience temporary traffic disruption from August 10 after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced a partial closure of a section of the highway near the Highway Educational Complex at Bellevue to facilitate the construction of a box culvert.
In a notice issued on Monday, KeNHA said the works will affect both carriageways until September 14, with the affected section being closed interchangeably.
The authority said motorists will continue using the remaining two open lanes throughout the construction period to minimise traffic disruptions.
"This closure is to allow for the construction of a box culvert on this road section," KeNHA said.
KeNHA urged motorists to follow the traffic management plan in place and cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals stationed at the site.
The authority said normal traffic flow along the affected section of Mombasa Road will resume once the construction works are completed.
"All motorists using this road section will utilise the unclosed two lanes, which shall be provided interchangeably during the construction period to minimise traffic interruptions," KeNHA said.
The roadworks are part of KeNHA's ongoing efforts to improve drainage infrastructure and enhance road safety, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
The announcement comes weeks after KeNHA temporarily closed part of the Emali–Isineti (A5) Road to allow for the installation of a drainage structure.
During those works, motorists were similarly advised to exercise caution, obey traffic signs and cooperate with traffic marshals and police officers on site.
