The much-anticipated Kenya Cup clash between Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Kabras Sugar, which was abandoned last weekend in Nairobi due to a torrential downpour, will not be replayed, the In a statement issued on Tuesday, the national rugby governing body said the decision was reached after its committee determined that relevant regulations had been contravened, Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has ruled.
The ruling was guided by Regulation 13.6.4.6(b)(ii) on match abandonment together with Clause 8 of the 2025/26 league manual, which addresses match venues.
“The affected Kenya Cup match involved KCB Rugby and Kabras Sugar RFC, which had been abandoned during play. In this case, the committee ruled that the result at the time the match was halted will stand as the final outcome of the fixture,” read part of the statement.
The two titans clashed on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the KCB Grounds in Ruaraka. The match saw Andrew Amonde’s KCB draw first blood, surging through the rain to take a 10-0 lead. However, before the first half ended, Carlos Katywa’s men equalised to level the scores at 10-10.
Centre referee Kevin Wambugu, assisted by Marlynne Injehu and Brian Nyakundi, stopped the match citing an unplayable surface, triggering a tense situation between Amonde’s and Katywa’s charges, with both sides calling for a rematch.
The decision means Kabras Sugar remain unbeaten this season and still top of the table with 47 points after ten matches. KCB Rugby stay second with 45 points, level with Menengai Oilers but ahead on head-to-head.
With the regular season nearing its conclusion, Kabras now need victory against Menengai Oilers in their upcoming clash to officially seal the top spot and guarantee a home semi-final and final once again. KCB, meanwhile, will face varsity side Daystar in a fixture that could favour Kabras as they pursue their fourth consecutive Kenya Cup title.
KRU’s fixtures committee also reviewed and made rulings on two other Matchday 10 fixtures that were abandoned before full conclusion.
In the KRU Championship match between Mean Machine and Mombasa RFC, the committee ruled in favour of the coastal side, awarding them full points, while Mean Machine will be docked two points. The match will be recorded as a 28-0 result in favour of Mombasa RFC.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Cup fixture between KU Blak Blad and Impala RFC will now be played at a later date. The match has been rescheduled to a midweek slot before the final round of Kenya Cup fixtures, with KU Blak Blad maintaining hosting rights as originally planned.
Both teams have been instructed to ensure the match is completed by Wednesday noon to allow sufficient player recovery time ahead of the Kenya Cup fixtures scheduled for March 14, 2026.
