ODM confirms Oburu Oginga is in UK for medical check-up

Siaya Senator and ODM leader Oburu Oginga has travelled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up, with the party moving to assure the public that he is in good health.

ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale confirmed to Radio Generation that Oginga left the country for the medical review and said there was no cause for concern over his condition.

"Yes, he is in the United Kingdom for a routine checkup. He is doing fine," said Etale.

The party official said Oginga is expected to return to Kenya on Saturday.

His latest trip abroad comes just days after he briefly visited Nairobi Hospital on September 1, an episode that triggered public concern about his health.

Oginga subsequently explained that his time at the hospital was for a general medical assessment and dismissed reports suggesting that he was seriously unwell.

"I had only briefly visited the hospital for a general check-up with my doctors and have since returned home," said Oginga.

The senator also sought to assure the public that he would speak openly about his health should he ever develop a serious medical problem.

"Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone. The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person," he said.

After the hospital visit, Oginga continued receiving political leaders and friends who made courtesy calls to inquire about his well-being.

He has since kept away from the political limelight, even as he continues with his medical follow-up.

The ODM leader's departure for the UK therefore comes against the backdrop of the recent hospital visit, but the party has maintained that the senator is doing well and that his latest trip is only for a routine check-up.
