Police have arrested a suspected police impersonator after a raid at L’Arc Casino in Yaya Centre, Kilimani, leading to the recovery of a firearm, 100 rounds of ammunition and police-related items.
According to a statement by the DCI on Monday, the suspect, identified as Philemon Kiplangat Chepkwony, was arrested inside a vehicle during the operation. Detectives recovered a CZ 75 SP-01 pistol, an empty magazine, a pair of handcuffs, a fake police Certificate of Appointment identifying him as a Police Constable, and a fake firearm certificate.
Following his arrest, the suspect led detectives to his rented house where officers recovered 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
"Upon interrogation, the suspect led officers to his rented house in Waluku Village, Dagoretti North, where detectives recovered 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition packed in two boxes, each containing 50 rounds," DCI said.
The suspect remains in custody pending arraignment as detectives investigate the source of the firearm and ammunition, and the extent of his alleged police impersonation activities.
The recovered items and the vehicle have been detained as exhibits.
