President William Ruto has nominated Dr Duncan Ojwang Oburu to serve as the next Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), setting in motion the process to fill one of the country's key police oversight positions.
The nomination was communicated through a presidential notification issued by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, who confirmed that Oburu's name has been forwarded to Parliament for consideration and approval in line with the Constitution and the relevant statutes.
Oburu's nomination formed part of a broader list of appointments and redeployments affecting constitutional commissions, statutory bodies and institutions responsible for intergovernmental relations.
If Parliament approves the nomination, Oburu will take over the leadership of IPOA, the independent agency tasked with overseeing the conduct of the National Police Service.
The authority is mandated to investigate complaints against police officers and promote accountability in policing as part of its oversight role.
Parliament is expected to consider the nomination before making a decision on whether Oburu will assume office as the next chairperson of the watchdog.
