Thousands of vulnerable households across the country are set to benefit after the government released Sh2.4 billion for the June 2026 Inua Jamii cash transfer, with payments already underway for more than 1.2 million registered beneficiaries.
In a notice issued on August 4, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection said 1,213,156 beneficiaries under the programme will each receive Sh2,000 for the June payment cycle.
The funds, amounting to Sh2,426,312,000, have been released through the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs.
The ministry said the latest disbursement is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide financial support to vulnerable members of society through its social protection programmes.
Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Principal Secretary Joseph Motari said payments began on August 3 and beneficiaries can now access their money through the approved payment channels.
“Payment commenced yesterday, August 3, with each beneficiary set to receive Sh2,000 covering the June cycle,” the Motari said.
Motari said the programme continues to support those who are most in need, including older persons aged 70 years and above as well as people living with severe disabilities.
According to the ministry, the regular cash transfers are intended to help beneficiaries meet essential household needs while easing the financial pressure faced by vulnerable families.
The ministry said Inua Jamii remains an important part of the government’s social protection plan, providing direct financial assistance aimed at improving the welfare and livelihoods of eligible beneficiaries.
The latest release comes as the government continues to strengthen programmes that offer support to vulnerable groups across the country.
The funds are paid directly to registered beneficiaries, allowing them to meet daily household expenses and other basic needs.
The government has continued to identify social protection as one of the measures used to reduce poverty and help vulnerable populations cope with economic challenges, particularly older persons and people living with severe disabilities.
Motari said the latest payment reflects the government’s continued commitment to providing social assistance to vulnerable Kenyans through the Inua Jamii programme.
Apart from older persons and people with severe disabilities, the programme also supports other households facing serious socio-economic challenges.
The ministry urged beneficiaries to collect their payments through the designated channels and continue observing the programme’s requirements as they receive the financial support.
