Comedian and social activist Eric Omondi has crossed Voi after walking more than 330 kilometres on his Nairobi-to-Mombasa charity trek.
The initiative, called the “Walk of Love,” aims to fund a permanent Sisi Kwa Sisi Help and Rescue Centre, which will provide medical services, emergency ambulances, a warehouse, and a free secondary school for marginalized communities in Kenya.
Omondi set out from Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on February 10, 2026, with the goal of completing the full 486-kilometre journey by Valentine’s Day. The launch drew thousands of Kenyans, including celebrities and well-wishers, who turned the start into a lively celebration of the cause.
On his first day, he managed to walk about 63 kilometres but suffered torn ligaments in his leg and hip due to the demanding pace. He remained resolute, stating, “Nothing, not even severe discomfort, will force me to abandon the mission.”
As he moved through Machakos, Emali, and other towns, the walk presented new challenges.
The Kenya Wildlife Service cautioned him against certain stretches because of dangerous animals like lions and elephants, leading Omondi to revise his route. He now plans to walk approximately 370 kilometres instead of the originally intended full distance.
Supporters have kept morale high, following him in towns along Mombasa Road and joining social media livestreams.
Donations via the Paybill number continue to come in, and many are “purchasing” symbolic kilometres to help advance the campaign.
With around 156 kilometres still to cover, Omondi’s journey has become a symbol of persistence and collective goodwill, highlighting both the needs of vulnerable communities and the power of individual action for social change.
