Kenya Police FC have arrived in Libya ahead of their CAF Champions League clash with Sudan's Al Hilal Friday 24 October 2025.
The first leg clash between the sides ended 1-0 in the Sudanese side's favour at the Ulinzi Stadium last Friday. The match was played behind closed doors, handing the visitors a major advantage, which they took.
Police landed in the north African country Tuesday afternoon and took part in a training session Wednesday in the Libyan second city of Benghazi. Ordinarily, Al Hilal would have hosted their home tie at the 35,000-seater Al Hilal Stadium in Omdurman, but the match will now be staged at the Benina Martyrs Stadium.
This is occasioned by the political instability in Sudan that has led to the displacement of a large number of Sudanese and the suspension of Sports activities in the country.
As a result, Al Hilal as well as the Sudanese national team have used the ground in Benina for their home matches, especially because there is a large group of Sudanese immigrants operating from that region.
Police will need a win tomorrow evening to have any chance of making it to the group stages of the competition and according to their coach Etienne Ndayiragije, the clash provides them with an opportunity to chase history.
He attributed the first leg loss to mistakes and says his team is more focused as a result.
"I told my players that when you get to the top level, you must reduce mistakes and make sure that when chances come, you don’t panic and waste them,” Ndayiragije told Azam TV as quoted by Mozzart Sports.
“I thought we were growing into the game, and we could have finished off our chances. I take this as the first half, and I believe the second half will be favourable for our side.”
The winner of the tie makes it to the money spinning group stages, where the opportunity to earn prize money worth over USD 750,000 will be up for the taking.
