Kenya Police coach unmoved as winless run stretches to seven games
In Summary

Kenya Police drew 1-1 with Mara Sugar, extending a run of one win in seven. Coach Dusan Stojanovic insists he feels no pressure and believes the title defence remains on track.

Kenya Police’s season has hit a turbulent patch, but head coach Dusan Stojanovic remains unruffled after his side extended a frustrating sequence of results with a 1-1 draw against Mara Sugar on Wednesday, 14 January.

Early promise, familiar frustration

The match began with a flash of optimism when new signing Yves Koutiama fired Police into a second-minute lead, only for the visitors to level from a set-piece just after the half-hour mark. What followed was a familiar script for the defending champions: chances created but not taken, and a scoreboard that refused to reflect their dominance. The stalemate left Police trailing the joint leaders Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards by five points and nursing a run of just one win in seven matches.

Calm in the eye of the storm

Amid swirling speculation about his future — Stojanovic only arrived at the club in November — the Serbian coach dismissed talk of pressure with a wry smile. “No pressure. No pressure. Guys, this is football. This is the game, and facts are facts,” he said, insisting the title race is far from over. “We are still in the pace of defending the trophy. Yes, we are, because the difference is not too big — just two, three games, and you are there.”

Missed chances and fine margins

Police fashioned several gilt-edged opportunities that might have changed the narrative. Substitute David Simiyu was denied by goalkeeper Evans Ouma, and Geoffrey Onyango saw a header hacked off the line by Robinson Muzungu. Stojanovic was blunt about his side’s profligacy: “We deserved more, but we got the draw. We spoke before the game that we needed to convert our chances. We are creating so many chances, but we are not converting them.”

The road ahead

The numbers tell a worrying story: just four goals from their last seven outings. Stojanovic, who for the first time had Nicholas Muyoti alongside him on the technical bench, will be searching for sharper finishing and renewed belief if he is to steady the ship. For now, the coach’s composure is the clearest sign that, despite the headlines and the mounting pressure from results, Kenya Police are not ready to concede the chase.
