Just days after attracting more than Sh2.2 million in public donations, the Linda Mwananchi movement has been forced to deal with a setback after its Paybill platform developed technical problems, temporarily affecting contributions from supporters.
The movement confirmed the disruption in a notice issued on Thursday, saying the payment system had encountered a technical hitch and that the service provider had already been contacted to restore normal operations.
"We are currently experiencing technical issues with the Paybill mode of payment. We have reached out to the provider to resolve the issue as quickly as possible," the notice read.
The movement appealed to supporters for patience as efforts continue to fix the problem.
"Kindly bear with us. Thank you for your patience and understanding!" the statement said.
Supporters have been using Paybill number 3033049 to send their contributions, with each donor required to enter their phone number as the account number during the transaction.
The temporary disruption comes only days after the movement launched the Paybill as part of its campaign to raise money for its activities.
An update released on July 22, 2026, showed that the initiative had already collected Sh2,210,836.82 through the Paybill, reflecting a strong response from supporters shortly after the fundraising drive was unveiled.
The Paybill was introduced on Tuesday by Edwin Sifuna, who urged Kenyans to contribute Sh10 each to help fund the movement's operations and logistics.
Speaking during an interview on Mulembe FM, Sifuna rejected claims that Linda Mwananchi is financed by wealthy individuals, saying those making such allegations should first decide which narrative they believe.
"The critics should choose one battle. If I'm someone's project, then I have money; why do they then say that I do not have money? They should choose one: either I have or I do not have money. Either I have a sponsor or I do not have one," Sifuna said.
He also explained why the Paybill account bears his name, saying Linda Mwananchi has not yet been registered as a political party.
"I want to explain to Kenyans about our Paybill. We have not registered Linda Mwananchi as a party, so when we are looking for a Paybill account, we use our official names. You will see my name on the Paybill. The Paybill number is 3033049. You will see the name E. Sifuna."
Sifuna encouraged supporters to continue sending Sh10 contributions and assured them that the movement would make public how the money raised is used.
Although donations have temporarily been affected by the technical hitch, the movement says it is working to have the Paybill restored as quickly as possible so supporters can resume making contributions.
