Linda Mwananchi tells Western Kenya Ruto will lose in 2027

President William Ruto's re-election bid came under fresh attack on Saturday as Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and a host of opposition leaders took their Linda Mwananchi campaign to Western Kenya, declaring that the region will play a key role in the push to remove him from office in the 2027 General Election.

The leaders, who began a two-day political tour of Trans Nzoia and Bungoma counties, said they were taking their message directly to Kenyans as they seek to unite the opposition ahead of the next General Election.

The campaign, hosted by Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, attracted several senior politicians who maintained that the opposition has what it takes to defeat the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Addressing residents at Moi's Bridge town, Sifuna said the opposition had traversed different parts of the country and was convinced that many Kenyans had lost confidence in President Ruto's leadership.

"We have gone to all parts of the country and I can tell you President Ruto has no vote. We don't hate the President, but as Kenyans we are suffering. Kenyans have no money, extrajudicial killings have been on the rise, the economy is doing badly, and that is why we want to take him home in 2027," Sifuna said.

He said the Linda Mwananchi movement was focused on mobilising support across the country to build a united political front capable of challenging President Ruto at the ballot.

Among the leaders accompanying Sifuna were Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Bumula MP Jack Wamboka and Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka.

Governor Natembeya said the opposition leaders had come together with a common goal of offering Kenyans an alternative leadership.

"We have come to show naysayers that we are united for a cause to liberate this country. We appreciate the support of Kenyans for this important political cause," Natembeya said.

Babu Owino accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of introducing policies that had made life harder for ordinary Kenyans, saying many families were struggling with the rising cost of living.

Khalwale said the opposition was determined to remove President Ruto from office, arguing that challenges facing sectors such as SHA and CBE, alongside corruption, had strengthened calls for political change.

"We are working to unseat President Ruto because many things are not working in the country, including SHA and CBE. Corruption is the order of the day," he said.

Osotsi said the United Opposition would settle on one presidential candidate to face President Ruto in the 2027 election, saying unity would be central to its strategy.

The opposition convoy later passed through Kaplamai before winding up the day's activities at Sibanga Market in Cherangany, where the leaders addressed large crowds as they continued to drum up support for their campaign.
