Bamburi Cement Plc has appointed Geoffrey Ndugwa as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2026, marking a strategic leadership transition for the local cement and concrete solutions provider.

Ndugwa succeeds Mohit Kapoor, who concludes his tenure after steering the company through a critical phase of stabilisation and growth.

The announcement, made by the Bamburi Cement Board, describes Ndugwa as a transformative leader with extensive experience in the cement and construction sector across sub-Saharan Africa.

Most recently, he served as Mergers and Acquisitions Projects Director for the Holcim Group MEA Region and previously held the CEO position at Lafarge South Africa.

John Simba, Chairman of the Bamburi Cement Board, welcomed Ndugwa, highlighting his leadership credentials.

“The Board is delighted to welcome Mr. Ndugwa. He is a seasoned business leader who has successfully held several strategic roles across the continent, delivering excellent corporate results,” Dr. Simba said.

He also paid tribute to the outgoing CEO, noting that Kapoor “stabilized the business during a critical transition phase and provided leadership at a unique stage of the business turnaround process.”

Ndugwa brings a strong academic and professional background to the role. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, UK, a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Civil Engineering from the University of East London, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the UK Chartered Institute of Marketing.

A Chartered Marketer and member of both the Uganda Institute of Professional Engineers and the UK Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ndugwa is also a graduate of the Lafarge University/INSEAD Executive Development programme.

His career spans over two decades, beginning as a Structural Engineer before joining Lafarge Uganda in 2001.

He later held roles including Head of Business Support at Barclays Bank, General Manager for Marketing, Innovation & Corporate Sales at Lafarge Cement WAPCO Nigeria, and Commercial Director for Bamburi Cement Ltd.

He most recently served as Country CEO for Lafarge in Malawi and Zimbabwe.

The leadership change coincides with Bamburi Cement’s ambitious expansion plans.

The company recently signed a US$250 million (Ksh 32 billion) Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with Sinoma CBMI Construction Co., Ltd for a state-of-the-art clinkerisation factory in Matuga, Kwale County.

The new 1.6 million tonnes-per-year facility will employ advanced carbon-neutral technologies to minimize environmental impact and is designed to more than double the company’s clinker production to 2.6 million tons and cement output to 4 million tons.

“This project underpins our strategic ambition to achieve clinker self-sufficiency, enhance production capacity, and support Kenya’s growing infrastructure demands,” Dr. Simba said.

Bamburi Cement, a member of the Amsons Group, has been operational for 70 years and is a leading manufacturer in Eastern Africa, with subsidiaries including Bamburi Special Products Ltd, Bamburi Eco Systems Ltd, and Diani Estates Ltd.

The Amsons Group, established in 2000, operates across multiple sectors in Tanzania, Kenya, Burundi, Congo, Zambia and Mozambique.
