Tuju pleads not guilty over police report allegations in Karen incident

Prosecutors allege that on March 21, 2026, at Entim Sidai Spa and Wellness Sanctuary in Karen, Lang’ata Sub-county, Tuju told a police officer stationed at Karen Police Station that he had been under surveillance by unknown individuals and later abducted.

Raphael Tuju has formally denied accusations brought against him in a Kibera court case tied to a police report in which he allegedly claimed he had been abducted after being followed by unknown people.

The former Cabinet Secretary appeared before Stella Atambo on Wednesday, who directed the plea hearing after issuing a summons, in a matter arising from events that had earlier drawn public interest over concerns about his safety and location.

Proceedings were held at Kibera Law Courts, where the charges were presented and he was asked to respond in court.

Prosecutors allege that on March 21, 2026, at Entim Sidai Spa and Wellness Sanctuary in Karen, Lang’ata Sub-county, Tuju told a police officer stationed at Karen Police Station that he had been under surveillance by unknown individuals and later abducted.

The State maintains that the account given was not true and that he was aware of its false nature at the time, with the intention that the officer would act on the information provided.

Tuju faces charges brought under Section 129(a) of the Penal Code, which deals with the offence of supplying false information to a public officer.

When the charge was read in open court, he rejected the allegations and entered a plea of not guilty.

Through his legal team, he asked the court to grant him bond, arguing that the offence falls under misdemeanour and pointing to his years of public service as part of the request.

The court is expected to give directions on bond terms at a later date.
