The Public Service Commission (PSC) has opened registration for the September 2026 Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers, with applications set to close on Friday, August 28.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, the commission said the examinations will be held from September 21 to 24 at nine centres across the country: Machakos, Nyeri, Mombasa, Embu, Garissa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Kakamega and Eldoret. The specific examination venues will be communicated to candidates after registration.
PSC said officers wishing to register must have obtained a minimum Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean grade of C- (minus) or its equivalent, be serving as clerical officers in the Public Service, and have completed at least one year of service in the position.
The commission also announced that certificates for candidates who passed the September 2025 Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers are ready for collection.
PSC directed first-time candidates to complete Form A, while those retaking the examination should fill Form B, both of which are available on the commission's website.
It instructed candidates to submit the completed forms, duly endorsed by their Head of Department or Section where applicable, together with the Government copy of the receipt generated through the e-Citizen platform.
According to the notice, all registration documents should be addressed to the Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Commission and reach the commission no later than August 28.
The commission also detailed the examination fees, stating that candidates will pay a basic registration fee of KSh2,625, an additional KSh875 for each of the seven examination papers and an e-Citizen processing fee of KSh50, in line with revised rates contained in a circular issued on May 3, 2018.
Applicants have been directed to process their applications through the PSC e-Citizen portal by selecting PSC Examinations, submitting their personal details, choosing whether they are first-time or repeat candidates, selecting the examination type and centre, and awaiting approval before making payment.
"Once approval is granted, scroll back to your profile and click on the awaiting payment button, make the payment through one of the gateways provided and download the Government copy of the receipt and attach it to the duly filled registration form," the commission said.
PSC warned that candidates submitting registration forms after the August 28 deadline will be required to pay a late registration fee of Sh525. The final deadline for late registration is Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The commission also announced that certificates for candidates who passed the September 2025 Proficiency Examination for Clerical Officers are ready for collection at Public Service Commission House during official working hours.
"Officers are requested to carry their original Identification Card or Passport. Officers who passed promotional examinations administered by the Public Service Commission in earlier years and have not collected their certificates are requested to do so," the notice said.
The commission encouraged prospective candidates to download detailed examination information and registration forms from its official website before the application deadline.
