President William Ruto and several Cabinet Secretaries have reshuffled leadership in a number of State agencies, with a series of appointments and reappointments taking effect from August 7, 2026.
The changes, published through Gazette notices, affect key institutions dealing with agriculture, wildlife, transport, roads, water, trade and higher education, with several officials handed fresh three-year terms.
Among the appointments, Ruto named Benson Gichohi Ngure as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO), where he will serve for three years.
The President also renewed Lucy W. Waruingi’s tenure as chairperson of the Governing Board of the Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 23 (2) (a) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, re-appoint— LUCY W. WARUINGI as the Chairperson of the Governing Board of the Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the 7th August, 2026," the notice further reads.
In the transport sector, Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir retained Anna Robai Makawa, Dominic Kipkoech Koskei and Annastacia Mumbua Musyimi as members of the Board of Directors of the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority.
The three officials have each been given another three-year term.
Chirchir also appointed Mohamed Rashid Abdille to the Board of Directors of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority for a period of three years.
The water sector also saw several officials retain their positions.
Cabinet Secretary Eric Murithi Mugaa reappointed Patrick Musili Mbangula as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Water Institute Board for another three years.
Mugaa also renewed the appointment of Mwololo Benjamin Kyalo as a member of the National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority for three years.
In the wildlife sector, Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano reappointed George Fredrick Mosiori, Mark Rotich and Jane Naini Meriwas to the Governing Board of the Wildlife Conservation Trust Fund.
Their new terms will run for three years.
Miano further appointed Robert Nyanjui Wainaina as a member of the same board for a three-year period.
Changes were also made in the trade sector, where Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui appointed Aaron Nanok as chairperson of the Board of the Kenya Trade Remedies Agency.
Nanok’s three-year term takes effect from August 7, 2026.
At the National Lottery Board, Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture and Children Services Hanna Wendot Cheptumo appointed Caroline Jerobon Rotich as a board member for three years.
The appointment revoked the earlier appointment of Teresia Jerusah Michael.
The education sector also recorded several changes involving university councils.
Professor Ezra Maritim was reappointed as chairperson of the Council of the Open University of Kenya for another three years.
He will serve alongside Lawrence Muchilwa, Dr Susan Kiragu and Dr McOkwiri Kevin Juma, who were appointed as members of the council.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba also appointed Mumbi Kahindu, Christine Jepyegon Ronoh, Job Wafula Chelongo, Kariuki Peter Maru and Julius G. Obare Mokogi to the Council of Nyandarua University College.
At Laikipia University, Fatuma Abdi was appointed to the university council for three years.
Her appointment replaces the previous designation contained in Gazette Notice No. 11252 of 2026, which has been revoked.
Ogamba also appointed Dr David Gikungu to the Council of Meru University of Science and Technology for a three-year term.
Elsewhere, East African Community, ASALs and Regional Development Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul Moe retained Joseph Lorunyei Kuwam as a member of the Ewaso Ng’iro North River Basin Development Authority.
Kuwam, however, received a shorter term than most of the officials affected by the latest changes, with his appointment running for one year from August 7, 2026.
