State postpones NYOTA rollout event in Athi River

Plans for the rollout of the NYOTA programme in Machakos County have been put on hold, with the government postponing an event that was due to be presided over by President William Ruto.

Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua confirmed that the event scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at the NITA Athi River Centre has been postponed until further notice.

“IMPORTANT UPDATE. The NYOTA Roll-Out event scheduled for Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at NITA Athi River has been postponed until further notice,” Mutua said.

The postponement was also confirmed by the National Industrial Training Authority.

The event was expected to mark the rollout of the revamped NYOTA programme, with 3,727 beneficiaries listed to participate.

Mutua announced the postponement in a statement shared on X, without giving reasons for the decision or providing a new date.

The programme, whose full name is National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement, supports vulnerable young people through employment opportunities, skills development, entrepreneurship and savings initiatives.

Beneficiaries and other participants have been advised to await further communication from the ministry and NYOTA officials on the rescheduled event.
