Two men have been sentenced to death by a Wajir court after being found guilty of violently robbing a boda boda rider in the town.
Senior Principal Magistrate Eric Malesi convicted Abdiaziz Ali Ahmed, alias “Odi,” and Abdiwahab Mohamed Hassan, alias “Steam Boy,” after ruling that the prosecution had proved the case against them beyond reasonable doubt.
The two were charged with robbery with violence under Section 296(2) of the Penal Code, with Abdiaziz also facing an alternative charge of handling stolen property.
The court heard that on November 13, 2025, at around 9.30 pm, the complainant, Nesiah Thuranira Mwenda, was riding his motorcycle along Baraza Park Road in Wajir Township when two men approached him pretending to be passengers.
The two were later joined by about five other men who surrounded the rider, assaulted him and robbed him of a Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone valued at Sh30,000.
The gang then forced the victim to a nearby M-Pesa shop, where they demanded access to his mobile money account and withdrew Sh15,000, while also taking an additional Sh10,000 from the agent.
During investigations, police linked the stolen phone and mobile transactions to the first accused, with the device later recovered from his mother.
After considering the evidence and mitigation, the court sentenced the two men to death as provided under the law. They were informed of their right to appeal within 14 days.
