Kalonzo: Ignore fake reports, we are staying in Wantam

Fresh speculation over Kalonzo Musyoka’s political future has prompted the Wiper Patriotic Front to firmly reject claims that he is preparing to chart a new political path, maintaining that the party remains fully committed to the Wantam Movement and the Opposition’s unity agenda.

In a statement issued through the Wiper Patriotic Front on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Kalonzo called on supporters to disregard reports circulating online suggesting he was set to announce a shift in political alliances or unveil a new direction.

“Ignore the fake news. We are committed to Wantam Movement. Ukombozi wa Kenya ni lazima, and Kenya cannot be liberated until we send this regime home,” the statement read.

The statement was accompanied by an image of a purported invitation to a special press conference that claimed Kalonzo would make a major announcement on political alliances and the future of the country’s leadership. Wiper dismissed the document as false by prominently marking it “FAKE.”

The latest response follows another clarification issued by Kalonzo last week after a lobby group launched a digital platform claiming it would allow Kenyans to participate in selecting the Opposition’s presidential flagbearer for the 2027 General Election.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Kalonzo said the platform, introduced by a group identifying itself as the WANTAM Advisory Committee, had not been approved by the Wiper Patriotic Front, the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition or the United Alternative Government in Waiting.

“Our attention has been drawn to a digital platform recently unveiled by a lobby group referring to itself as the WANTAM Advisory Committee, purportedly designed to give Kenyans a voice in shaping the Opposition’s 2027 presidential flagbearer selection,” the statement read.

“We state clearly: Both the initiative as well as the lobby group have not been sanctioned by the Wiper Patriotic Front, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, or the United Alternative Government in Waiting.”

Kalonzo said the Opposition would announce the official process of picking its presidential flagbearer through recognised channels when the appropriate time comes.

“The Wiper Patriotic Front, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, and the United Alternative Government in Waiting will communicate the official process for flagbearer selection through proper and recognized channels in due course,” the statement added.

The clarification comes as discussions continue over how the Opposition will settle on a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
