Korir Sing’Oei denies 2027 elective bid rumours

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei has dismissed speculation that he plans to vie for an elective seat in the 2027 General Election, maintaining that his focus remains on serving the country in his current role.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Monday, Sing’Oei termed reports linking him to political ambitions as false, saying he remains committed to advancing Kenya’s foreign policy, supporting community initiatives and helping implement the government's transformative agenda.

The Principal Secretary urged the public to disregard claims suggesting he is preparing to contest any elective position, reiterating that his priority is to advance Kenya’s interests through diplomacy while fulfilling his responsibilities in government.

“Just to be clear: I have no interest in seeking any elective office in 2027. I am singularly focused on advancing Kenya’s interests in my current position, advancing select community initiatives and supporting the realization of the government’s transformative agenda. Treat any information to the contrary as false,” Sing’Oei said.

His statement comes amid speculation on social media and within political circles that he could be positioning himself for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.

The clarification was issued after Sing’Oei responded to an X user who had shared a 2022 campaign poster in which he had previously expressed interest in the gubernatorial position.

By publicly addressing the claims, the Principal Secretary sought to put an end to suggestions that his current engagements or community activities signal preparations for a political campaign.

Since his appointment by President William Ruto in 2022, Sing’Oei has emerged as one of the government's most visible principal secretaries, regularly representing Kenya in bilateral and multilateral engagements.

He has also played a prominent role in communicating Kenya’s foreign policy, strengthening diplomatic relations, negotiating international agreements and articulating the country's position on regional and global matters.

His active presence on social media, coupled with regular commentary on foreign policy issues, has made him one of the most recognisable senior officials in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Despite his public profile, Sing’Oei maintained that his focus remains on delivering his mandate at the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs rather than pursuing elective politics.

He also said he would continue supporting community development initiatives alongside his government responsibilities, stressing that such programmes should not be interpreted as preparations for a political bid.

The Principal Secretary did not provide details of the initiatives but reiterated that they form part of his commitment to public service rather than political mobilisation.

His remarks come at a time when political activity is gathering pace ahead of the 2027 General Election, with several serving and former public officials either declaring their interest in elective positions or being linked to potential campaigns.

Sing’Oei's statement now seeks to settle speculation surrounding his political future, insisting that his immediate priority is advancing Kenya's interests through diplomacy while supporting the implementation of the government's transformative agenda.
